What “Elephant” Actually Means

Larger leaves don’t automatically mean higher or lower mitragynine content — that’s determined by the same factors (soil, harvest timing, processing) that affect any other kratom. The “Elephant” name tells you something about the plant’s physical characteristics; it doesn’t tell you anything about lab-verified potency or effects on its own.
“Yellow” layered on top of “Elephant” adds a separate processing claim — a specific drying/curing method that varies by vendor and isn’t standardized industry-wide. Important Context Most Guides Skip: Regulatory and Safety Status

- The FDA has not approved kratom for any medical use and doesn’t recognize it as a safe dietary supplement. The agency has issued warnings tied to contamination (including past salmonella recalls) and to the addictive potential of kratom’s active compounds.
- Kratom’s primary alkaloids, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, act on opioid receptors. That’s part of why some people use kratom to self-manage pain or opioid withdrawal — and also why dependency, withdrawal symptoms, and interactions with other substances (including alcohol and opioids) are documented, real risks rather than fringe concerns.
- Kratom is illegal or restricted in several U.S. states and countries. Check your local law before purchasing.
- The American Kratom Association (AKA) runs a voluntary Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) program some vendors join. It’s a useful signal, but it’s industry self-regulation, not independent government oversight.

What a Real Certificate of Analysis (COA) Should Contain
